Bird Flu- Whether you keep just a few birds or thousands, you are now legally required ( As from Dec 14th 2020) to meet enhanced biosecurity requirements and this is in your interests to do, to protect your birds from this highly infectious disease.Backyard owners with smaller numbers of poultry including chickens, ducks and geese are also urged to strengthen their biosecurity measures in order to prevent further outbreaks.
If you suspect any type of bird flu in poultry or captive birds you must report it immediately by calling
the Defra Rural Services Helpline on 03000 200 301. If you find dead wild waterfowl (swans,
geese or ducks) or other dead wild birds, such as gulls or birds of prey, you should report them
to the Defra helpline (03459 33 55 77 - please select option 7).
